UPV tours Radyo DZLB Facilities

The Department of Development Broadcasting and Telecommunication (DDBT), headed by Chair, Dr. Maria Stella Tirol, conducted a site tour of Radyo DZLB and benchmarking activities with visitors from the University of the Philippines Visayas Miagao Campus'College of Arts and Sciences last January 18-19, 2018.

DDBT faculty and staff welcomed the visiting group composed of UPV faculty members Dr. Zoilo Andrada, Prof. Mary Babbeth Vargas, and Jude Vincent Parcon  on the afternoon of January 18.

After the introductions, the visitors discussed agenda setting and benchmarking goals with DDBT. Included in their discussion were the operations of Radyo DZLB, the radio tower and other facilities, the UP franchise, as well multimedia courses incorporating radio production.

To commence the site tour, the group was shown the official CDC Video. Ryan Jay Galang, University Research Associate II , then lead the visitors to the CDC Radio Studio, where a brief radio equipment review was conducted. Afterward, they headed to the Radyo DZLB transmitter room where Radio Technician Geronimo Canonio discussed the specifications of the station's existing transmitter and other technical matters involved in radio broadcast.

On the second day, in-depth consultation about Radyo DZLB was facilitated by faculty and staff of the Department. Juvy Leonarda Gopela, University Researcher I, presented the organizational structure and personnel of DZLB, while aProf. Lester Ordan discussed its programming content. A discussion on the best practices of DZLB, presented by Dr. Benjamina Paula Flor, concluded the group's visit.

Two separate groups of students also visited the DDBT's facilities in January. On January 15, Senior High School Students from Don Bosco-Manila, under the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) track, visited the Department as part of their career exposure. On January 30, 5th year BS Electronics Engineering students from the Pamantasan ng Cabuyao had their facility tour of the Radyo DZLB studio and transmitter house as part of their Broadcast Engineering course.
