11 July 2017 by CBucu

A team from the UPLB College of Development Communication served as facilitators and documentors during the "R&D Congress on Sustainable Urbanization in the Course of ASEAN Economic Integration," organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (DENR-ERDB), in cooperation with the ASEAN - National Organizing Council. The event was held last June 26-30, 2017, at Sofitel Philippine Plaza, Manila.

The team from CDC comprised of: Dr. Benjamina Paula G. Flor and Mr. Elijah Jesse M. Pine, as masters of ceremonies; Dr. Edmund G. Centeno and Dr. Mildred O. Moscoso, as workshop facilitators; and John Mervin L. Embate, Kamille Anne C. Anarna, Rikki Lee B. Mendiola, and Ryan Jay I. Galang, as documentors.

The R&D Congress aimed to provide an avenue for building partnerships between and among ASEAN nations and for exchanging research-based information in an effort to achieve sustainable urbanization within the ASEAN Economic Community.

Sessions and workshops were divided into four research areas: ASEAN Economic Community and urban metabolism for inclusive growth; Environment protection amidst industrialization for sustainable cities; Human settlement and rapid urbanization in ASEAN megacities; and Impacts of flow of goods and services.

The Congress was participated in by established R&D practitioners from Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. Delegates from non-ASEAN counties with research conducted in Southeast Asia also attended the event.

This Congress is in line with the celebration of the ASEAN's 50th Founding Anniversary.
