Faculty members of the Department of Development Journalism shared with sectoral representatives and local government employees of Infanta, Quezon their knowledge and experience in community newspaper production during a four-day workshop held in Brgy. Ingas of the municipality.

aProf. Kabzeel Sheba G. Catapang and aProf. Jyasmin M. Calub-Bautista went to Infanta upon the invitation of the Mayor's Office and served as resource persons in community news writing, editing, photojournalism, and layouting.

The training-workshop was held on 10-13 Dec 2018 at a function hall of Fiesta Infanta Restaurant.

During the opening program, Hazel Nuque, information officer at the Mayor's Office, explained that the activity is geared toward strengthening the capacity of community stakeholders to contribute articles and other content to "Ang Infantahin BIDA (Balitang Infanta, Dito Alamin)," the official newsletter of the Infanta Local Government.

The said newsletter was revived only last year upon the initiative of Mayor Filipina Grace America. Toward this end, DDJ was also tapped to help the editorial board release the first issue through a training in June 2017.

This week's training was attended by the Sangguniang Kabataan, barangay officials, representatives from both public and private high schools, barangay officials, and LGU personnel who will all serve as contributors.

Outputs from this workshop will be published in the January 2019 issue of BIDA newsletter, according to Nuque.
