Mia has been teaching in CDC for over a decade now. She joined CDC in 1999 as research assistant and writer for a Philippine National AIDS Council project on popularizing the implementing rules and regulations of the Philippine AIDS Prevention and Control Act. She then became part of CDC's project with UNICEF on promoting children's rights.

Since she started teaching in 2002, she has handled undergraduate courses on introduction to development communication, mass media writing, science reporting, science communication, communication campaigns and programs, editing scientific and technical publications, and knowledge management, among others.

She earned her BSDC degree in 1999, majoring in Development Journalism and completed her masters degree also in Development Communication in 2008.

In addition to her academic undertakings, she is actively involved in the College's research and extension activities, a number of which are in the field of environmental communication, climate change adaptation, knowledge management, technology commercialization, children's rights and health communication.
