GANDINGAN 2010: UPLB isko't iskas honor outstanding RP broadcasters and programs

26 February 2010 by [G] MVPAranas

The sound of gandingan reverberates in Los Baņos once more.

Come February 27, the UP Los Baņos  iskolars para sa bayan will give recognition to the best personalities and programs in the Philippine broadcast industry during the Gandingan 2010: The UPLB Isko't Iska's Broadcast Choice Awards. Gandingan 2010 will be held at the DL Umali Hall Auditorium at 7 pm.

Gandingan is an annual event dedicated to honor programs and personalities who devote time to tackle development oriented issues in the mainstream media. According to Kitita Barcenas and Micca Basco of the UPLB Community Broadcasters' Society (UPLB CBS) who are also the activity heads of the event, Gandingan is a challenge for television and radio stations in the country to make their programs more development-oriented.

The Gandingan Awards was founded on the role of gandingan in the lives of the Maguindanao. Dubbed as the talking gong, gandingan is a set of gongs used by the Maguindanao Tribe to indirectly communicate with one another. The gandingan's ability to mimic the intonation of the Maguindanao dialect provided the natives an alternative means of conveying emotions and signals of danger or festivity within the community.

On its fourth year, UPLB CBS will present the Gandingan ng Kabataan, Gandingan ng Kalikasan, Gandingan ng Kababaihan, and Gandingan ng Edukasyon awards for the first time. Gandingan 2010's major awards are the Best TV Station and the Most Development-Oriented TV Station. Other awards include the Best Magazine Program, Best Morning Show, Best Public Service Program, Best Documentary, and Best FM and AM Stations.

The winners for Gandingan 2010 is based on the results of the university-wide survey conducted by the UPLB CBS.

Asia's sole harpist, singer, and  songwriter Noelle Cassandra will also be performing during the event together with the UPLB Street Jazz Dance Company, UPLB Chorale Ensemble, UPLB Filipiniana Dance Troupe, Wyre Underground of UPLB, and the UPLB Jammers' Club.

The Gandingan Awards is organized by the UP Community Broadcasters' Society supported by the Office of the Initiatives for Culture and the Arts (OICA), the College of Development Communication (CDC), and the University of the Philippines Los Baņos (UPLB). [G]
