CDC records highest enrollment rate in five years

30 November 2009 by [G] GEMRocafort

The College of Development Communication (CDC) had one of its highest enrollment rates since AY 2005-2006. This, the CDC Office of the College Secretary (OCS) confirmed after the two-week registration period (November 3 to 19, 2010) for the second semester.

Based on the OCS data, 609 out of the expected 636 students or 95.75% enrolled this semester. This year's second semester enrollee turnout is the highest in five years. Academic Year (AY) 2005-2006 recorded a 91.59% enrollment rate. Academic year 2006-2007 had 93.20%, AY 2007-2008 posted 94.22%, while AY 2008-2009 had a 93.69% enrollee turnout.

This semester, the CDC student population is composed of 166 freshmen; four of them being new freshmen (NF), 158 sophomores, including 2 new students who shifted from other college units, 130 juniors, and 155 seniors while the remaining 27 students of the 636 where either on leave of absence (LOA), dismissed, or on absence without leave (AWOL).

Of the 609 registered BS Development Communication students, 63 are Development Journalism majors, 74 Community Broadcasting students, 157 under Educational Communication, and 122 Science Communication majors.

In an interview with Professor Rhodora Ramonette de Villa, the CDC College Secretary, she stated that the enrollee turnout this semester is relatively high, considering the different factors that might have hindered students from enrolling, one of them being financial constraints due to recent typhoon aftermath from Ondoy and Pepeng.  Other factors that might have also caused delayed registration of CDC students are lack of subjects to enlist and different clearances to secure from the Office of Student Affairs and the University Library.

Professor De Villa also noted that this semester's enrollment is more efficient due to the implementation of the Student Online Verification Slip (OVS) where students are required to have their online CDC account verified first before having their Form 5 claimed.

The OVS was developed by the CDC Office of the College Secretary together with the CDC Web Development Team under the Department of Science Communication.
