IKM Project completes 2nd F2F Session

Faculty and Research, Extension, and Professional Staff (REPS) from the College of Development Communication (CDC), together with the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) and the Department of Agriculture'Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) personnel, have successfully completed the 2nd face-to-face (F2F) session under the project titled "Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) Mentorship Program: Communicating Agriculture and Fisheries Research for Inclusive and Sustainable Development (CAFRISD)."  The session was held last January 09-12, 2018 at the Sol Y Viento Resort and Hotel, Calamba City, Laguna. 

The project staff from CDC served as mentors and facilitators during the event. aProf. Elaine Llarena from the Department of Science Communication (DSC) served as project leader and overall facilitator while the following served as mentors for specific topics: aProf. Pamela Joyce Eleazar from the Department of Development Journalism for online and publications writing and production; Dr. Edmund Centeno from the Department of Educational Communication for photography and audio-visual writing; and Rikki Lee Mendiola, university extension specialist from DSC, as online learning expert.  

A total of 12 regional information and research and development officers from DA regional field offices attended the four-day event. The first two days were allotted to modular discussions while the remaining days were dedicated to the educational tour. Detailed lessons and discussions for said modules were conducted in separate online sessions.

This four-day F2F session focused on enhancing the skills of the attendees on dissemination and audio-visual communication of agricultural research results. It also introduced the participants to the following KM agencies: DA-Agricultural Training Institute (DA-ATI), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) during their two-day educational tour. 

The IKM Mentorship Program will have its last F2F session on the third week of March 2018, before concluding with its first batch of participants in a testimonial ceremony. (written by Marie Antoinette Bangabang)
